What is SOAP?
SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) is a way for a program running in one kind of operating system (such as Windows 2000) to communicate with a progam in the same or another kind of an operating system (such as Linux) by using the World Wide Web's Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP)and its Extensible Markup Language (XML) as the mechanisms for information exchange. Since Web protocols are installed and available for use by all major operating system platforms, HTTP and XML provide an already at-hand solution to the problem of how programs running under different operating systems in a network can communicate with each other. SOAP specifies exactly how to encode an HTTP header and an XML file so that a program in one computer can call a program in another computer and pass it information. It also specifies how the called program can return a response.
What Can It Do for Me?
You can link with any soap-compliant system with complete w3c standard wsdl these will be completed in version 4.0 they are more just the abstract data layers of wsdl, they still need a dynamic mime type and other system written into them which the constructs are in place. You can transfer data between any sort tunnel through most of not all firewalls and poll your xoops platform from with another xoops or CMS or even things like .NET, Delphi and many other programming languages.
X-SOAP is the quick way for cloud computing, you can link your xoops platform with any other computer network with this module, plug-in have complete WSDL compilation code and allow for easy and dynamic deployment.
Whats New in this release?
X-Torrent Plugins have been added, an error in 4.25 was patched to do with WSDL Generation, this has been affecting xortify which is a tempory bug.

Spiders 1.20
Last release in 1 series
Spiders is a robot manager tool, that imports a list of all crawler and scanner robots on the web. It allows you to use XOOPS Permissiveness to control the data that robots list online your site. It will also log the robot in using a post loader and display when the robot is online on you 'Whos Online'.
The robot text file used is taken from an online resource of Robot data and stores it in your database. Remember to adjust your mainfile.php to include the post loader after the common file is loaded if you are running a version of XOOPS before the preloaders in 2.4.x series.
Robot Manager (Spiders) is a good way to control what your site displays in search engines. I suggest you set up the robots manually with just the required fields the robot.txt file is old over 10 years and there are much better resources on the web for Bots User Agents.
Spider is only written for XOOPS 2.3 and later.
It is imperiative you update to this version - there was a minor glitch in the orginal system that could lead to security intrusions

Whats in Version 2 Series?
In version 2.0 series Spiders will be connected to a SOAP and CURL exchange most likely in the xortify cloud for us to maintain a cloud of robots and the unit will populate itself with the latest data in install.
xPNews 1.25
NNTP Protocol newsgroup browser for XOOPS 2. This newsgroup browser allows you to connect your xoops to any NNTP Protocol news service, including mime type parser and clear text browsing.
You can cross post, reply and make new posts to your Usenet or NNTP service on your own server. Based on PNews the GNU PHP newsgroup browser this title will allow you to access some of the older areas of the internet before the website.
Newgroups are the orginal forums, these are available to most people and offer the enticement of older areas and protocols of the internet. Xoops has a usenet area and we would like you to connect to it just add xoops* to your groups.
xPNEWS is a XOOPS version by the chinese author of PNEWS, it has been modified to utilize xoops_cache for page retention as well as cache and load link load. Read one display many times for your retention period.

X-Re-aggregator 2.27
Based on XoopsHeadlines includes a nice feature for Re-aggregating your RSS Feeds into your community from other sources, it includes a .htaccess SEO as well as an RSS Cache and RSS Snooping by Setting in your preferences. With a new RSS Mashables options, X-Reaggregator 2.21 offers the best in RSS Management and Snooping.
You can use CURL or fopen to retrieve RSS. with CURL you can set your User Agent as well this may be required if you need to pretend you are a browser with RSS Reading, sometimes you have to do this with Yahoo Pipes.
Or any other form of RDF or RSS Feeds, it will also parse into the core of the system for dynamic feed maintenance and collaboration methods with the multisite module.
Complete with mashables, that allow you to scan a feed or group of feeds with a keyword and display an RSS Feed defining this mashable and the keywords.

New (unofficial) Dutch translation team
As many of the Dutch XOOPS users know there is still NO Dutch translation for the XOOPS 2.4 series and many of the new modules.
This has to change, and since I didn't get any response from the leaders of the "official" Dutch translation team on the status of the translation, I decided to start a new team.
This new team will be communicating through Google Wave and hopefully this will make the team more productive.
If you are interested please send a mail to webmaster [at] xoops-info.nl**
(Replace [at] with @ and remove the spaces between the words).
What do we expect of you:
- That you have atleast one hour of free time per week to translate.
- - Although we would be VERY happy if you have more time to translate.
- That you'll respect the rules we've set up.
- - You will find this rules in your Google Wave inbox when you join us. (Don't worry there are just a few basic rules
)
- That you have a Google (Wave) account, or ready to accept an account from us.

XOOPS 2.4.5 RC2 Is Released
The XOOPS Development Team is pleased to announce that a new release of our Award winning CMS - XOOPS 2.4.5 RC2 (Release Candidate 2) is available for download.
This release is a bugfix-release of XOOPS 2.4.4 and earlier, done by XOOPS Core Development Team and XOOPS community:
Updates upon community:
- Reverted: Added Support for unicode object vars (trabis)
- Added: .htaccess into uploads folder for extra security (mamba)
- Fixed: _CM_RE renamed to _RE (trabis/mowaffaq)
Please remember: This is a Release Candidate for testing only!!!!
DO NOT install it on a production site and DO NOT upgrade any production site with it!!!
