New XOOPS website from Brazil - Faculdade FAVENI

I'd like to share with XOOPS Community our newest website in XOOPS 2.4.4.:

Faculdade FAVENI is a private college in Venda Nova do Imigrante - ES, Brazil. The classes for this semester started last Monday so now the students can access their college website powered by XOOPS!

I hope they like it, and you too!

The modules are as usual:

In Module News I've changed the system comments for Disqus, let's see how it works.

There are still some changes in progress but the site is good to go.

XOOPS Resource Book

We are pleased to release our first XOOPS Resource Book.

This book is a document to facilitate the exchange of information about XOOPS resources, particularly modules. It is not an offline repository (there is no module description), just a step to build it with your help.



HOW TO READ THIS BOOK

You need a pdf reader (Adobe acrobat reader 7 at least). You can easily navigate through the book by using bookmarks or search function.

HOW TO HELP

Our aim is to propose an updated modules repository on http://www.xoops.org. The Module Team needs your help to :

• find new modules, plugins, hacks, translations
We currently have listed more than 850 resources, found on various websites in various countries. Without you telling us about the download links for each resource, they would not be present in this book.

• find latest versions
We would like to propose - whenever possible - the latest version of each modules and the current “release”. If you find a more recent version of a module or if you have improved a module, please send us the download link.

• correct errors found in Xoops Resource Book
Some information listed below may be wrong: credits, version, release date, download link broken... If you detect an error, please add a sticky note and send us your correction(s)

• test modules
For each module, we will have to provide a complete description. If you have any useful information, do not hesitate to send your description(s).

• improve ww.xoops.org module repository organization
Any idea about categories? Please help us to make the repository more easy to use and to update: describe categories, add tags, provide free icons, etc.

Several days ago, Inspire 7 Lite was released. It is CSS 3-powered XOOPS theme. A very important part of the theme – the slideshow of the front page is not included in the Lite edition; it is now introduced in the Premium edition.

Why Premium is better?

The slideshow is highly integrated with Article module. You can either put up a static article and picture on front page, which can be easily set in the backend of Article module, or create a series of articles with pictures as slideshow. You do not need to modify any line of the code, just follow the detailed manual to adjust some settings and set up the blocks.

How can I get it?

To get this Premium edition, you only need to donate to XOOPS! You can donate whatever amount you like: $1 or $100, it’s up to you.
The detailed procedure is as follows:

1. Donate to XOOPS, take a screen shot of the final checkout page.
2. Send an email to me, and attach the screen shot.
3. I will send the theme files to you after checking the screen shot.

After you successfully acquire the theme file, you will get the privilege of acquiring future upgrades and fix for the theme. Those will be sent to your email address.

Am I still in time?

The event time period is from July 9, 2010 to August. 9, 2010 .

After Aug. 9, 2010, the theme will not be available for sale, that is, you can only get the theme during this month . So please take this chance: support XOOPS community and get Inspire 7 Premium for free!

Xoops 2.4.5 Light alpha (shrinked edition)

The main goal is to get Xoops light as possible. This is what I've found and deleted. Yes, the difference is not great, but if you take that the most of the files are small language definitions, you should be aware that uploading Xoops to the server is now much faster.

This realase is just for test and fun. In the future, I'll try to make even smaller Xoops package, excluding some default modules and WYSIWYG editors.

This package contains only htdocs directory from the original archive and it is only for expert users.

Please test this version and let me know what you think. Also, please suggest what else you think that is obsolate or not in common use.

The results of shrinking is:
Xoops 2.4.5 zip archive (only htdocs dir) - 6.560.241 bytes
Xoops 2.4.5 light zip archive - 4.823.017 bytes

Xoops 2.4.5 unpacked (only zip archive) - 13.861.410 bytes
Xoops 2.4.5 light unpacked - 10.137.698 bytes

The final result - 3.723.712 bytes less!

What is deleted is text in archive, or on forum topic.

Xortify 2.20

Xortify - Fortify your XOOPS.

Xortify is a network security drone that uses Web 2.0 techniques to link between your XOOPS installs and other via a XML Cloud. This will prevent security intrusions to your xoops with accurate deceptive notation of the intruder and prevent any farmed attacks. It is an accessory and required Protector to be installed an running to be part of the hookup. Otherwise it will run without protector just make sure you deselect protector as a provider.

It will display a template if you are banned and is an accessory to protector or any other firewall technology. The site itself is driven from http://www.xortify.com .. Cloud computing is web 2.0/3.0 stuff it used a SOAP XML exchange backend to work, this will eventually be included in xoops as a support class, that is SOAP protocol.

A cloud computing process is one which staggers multiple networks sometime and mainly unknown to the webmaster into a network or cloud of data. In this example it is IP and Netaddy names to control access lists.

This will prevent predators from exposing your network to lag and other attacks from link farming, often this means many xoops are attacked in occasions which is all the time caught by protector, this way if an attack is in process across a large spectrum of links, your site will down itself to your sourced attack even if it is discovered on a completely unaffiliated site that is link farmed to yours or on a XOOPS User list.

Spiders 2 Series (2.52)

Spiders is a robot manager tool, that imports a list of all crawler and scanner robots on the web. It allows you to use XOOPS Permissiveness to control the data that robots list online your site. It will also log the robot in using a post loader and display when the robot is online on you 'Whos Online'.

The robot text file used is taken from an online resource of Robot data and stores it in your database. Remember to adjust your mainfile.php to include the post loader after the common file is loaded.

Robot Manager (Spiders) is a good way to control what your site displays in search engines.

X-JSON - API Server for XOOPS

X-JSON 1.40 - API Server

Thousands of websites today offer their end clients API services. that is an Application Process Interface. This is an area where your clients can perform programmed functions on and with the data in your website.

It will provide the USE of cURL as an API Interface method with a series of callable plugins. This on is for the protocol cURL but the plugins from X-SOAP are identical in X-cURL.

This API behaves similarly to the twitter API in form and function.

What Can It Do for Me?

You can link with any json compliant system with complete w3c standard wsdl these will be completed in version 4.0 they are more just the abstract data layers of wsdl, they still need a dynamic mime type and other system written into them which the constructs are in place. You can transfer data between any sort tunnel through most of not all firewalls and poll your xoops platform from with another xoops or CMS or even things like .NET, Delphi and many other programming languages.

X-JSON is the quick way for cloud computing API's, you can link your xoops platform with any other computer network with this module, plug-in have complete WSDL compilation code and allow for easy and dynamic deployment.

Whats New in this release?
The bugs in the Admin have been fixed, new language files have have been introduced as well as standardisation of the <?php call in the php files.
