News 1.2 is out of Beta/RC status
Bugs are resolved, mainly there is one inconvenience remaining with news items not being shown in Classic view, but a clearing of templates_c folder content should take care of that.
We hope you like it and will use it as much as the previous version and that you will support the further development with more of your great ideas and comments.

The groupperm.php file included in the release (not in the .zip, but the release on dev.xoops.org) is the file from Xoops 2.0.7 which is to replace modules/system/admin/groupperm.php in Xoops 2.0.6 in order to make the group permissions work.

Using XOOPS in the Religious Community
This article was inspired by this thread in the forums. It caused me to gather longstanding thoughts about ministry and CMS's, particularly XOOPS.
As a result of that forum thread, I gave some thought to the use of Xoops in religious communities. Here in Dallas, where religion and tech go hand in hand (which, I suppose, has it’s own issues), it seems that every church has a web site. Indeed, they are ubiquitous. Most of them go unused, have stale content, and reflect little of the interactivity that we experience here at xoops.

Chivo.nl, new Dutch website - powered by Xoops
I published a new Dutch website, Chivo.nl and it covers the subject of vitality, wellness if you will. It is powered by Xoops, actually my first website in Xoops and I love it! This is the website:
Chivo.nl - Alles over vitaal worden en vitaal blijven!
It uses an adjusted 7dana theme and looks real clean, though not cold. It has articles and a FAQ, named VVV. This FAQ is used as a dictionary and the news items lean heavily on the dictionary. Time for a dictionay module, that automatically scans newsitems

I also used a Dutch language file that uses rather old style Dutch or is actually a Belgium (Vlaams) version. Have to change some of the commands. Some of the sentences actually have a medieval ring to it for a Dutch person.
The other module used is I-stats. The documentation is a bit confusing, due to the fact that it is an E-Xoops port. Just paste the Javascript code in the theme instead of the Footer option in the Admin and off you go. I also changed the code a bit, so it won't register the Admin and therefore does not mess up my real stats.

Xoops for Dummies e-book documentation
I have published Xoops documentation in the form of an e-book called XoopsForDummies. This e-book is in exe format and compatible with Windows. I am working on a pdf format version.
I also have a version online at http://www.macambridge.com/dummies
The aim is to give Xoops beginners a good all round understanding of Xoops. I have a lot more I wish to add, but one can go on and on editing and never publish anything..
So I thought I would release this at the stage it is.
The next version should hopefully have more in depth info and tutorials on specific modules etc.

Due to the diligent and dedicated work of our Core Development Team and the Module Development Teams, the XOOPS project is ranked 6, and today even 5 in the most active projects list on SourceForge.net! Kudos to the dev teams and all the beta testers and bug and hack submitters! In this list, the XOOPS project leaves esteemed projects such as the Azereus BitTorrent Client and phpMyAdmin behind it in activity. 
I must say that I am very proud of what XOOPS ia achieving at this moment! We all have become a major player in the open source world! Thank you everyone!
