Tropical Technologies Software
The Tropical Technologies homepage just got a major overhaul, using Xoops of course. It's a small site listing some freeware i made in my spare time. Xoops made it very easy to create a nice site containing all the features i wanted: a download section, news on the main page and a forum for the support. Usability was the major concern.
Come and visit! Any comments are welcome, and additionally you might find some useful software, too!

The DIY part is for "Do It Yourself". Topekadiy's organizers recognized that local and national corporate media do not publish news, but rather fluff-peices to spin some corporate or political agenda. Locally our newspapers rarely ever publish the press releases of citizens and activist groups, especially if they are not right wing republican groups.
So Topekadiy.com was created to give voice and venue to many of the disenfranchised groups, and to bring forth articles and information that is not generlly found in mainstream media.
Of course we also have a public forum that is not controlled by the corporate media, and their conservative mouthpeices and henchmen!

YAXS: The Fedora Community Portal
Though the site is up now for a few month, I want to introduce it here to you.
The Fedora Community Portal tries to be the community site for all issues regarding the Fedora Project.
As an extension to the main xoops functionality, I quickhacked a mailing list interface, which syncs the forum and the mailing list. A proper integration in the newbb would be nice and if I have the time, I will try to submit a patch to the newbb project.

Publish your news in the Mozilla and netscape Sidebar
If you want, you can give the possibility to your users to read your website's news directly from their Mozilla/Netscape sidebar. To do it, create a custom html block in the blocks manager, name it as you want and copy/paste the following content inside it (you will have to replace the website's name and the url or your website). This example is available for xoops.org :

Reynaldo's ShortURLs UPDATED
sim_suin has just released Simplified URLs which is great if you are trying ShortURLs for the first time. But if you have been using the Reynaldo's ShortURLs for a while, it would be just not feasible for the switch without creating a huge mess with search engines.
One of the issues using Reynaldo's ShortURLs is that it systematically converts all URLs including admin URLs. This proves to be problematic and you end up with many white pages in modules admin due to inconsistent coding.
The UPDATED hack utilizes (or borrows
) sim_suin's idea, will exclude module admin and system admin. No more modifying the module admin files in order to get it work. Enjoy!

Epping Forest Band making sweet music in North London
I took the old "free" website down and used XOOPS to create a great new place for the band to exchange news and photographs. The idea being that I didn't have to spend all my time updating and writing content... using XOOPS, everyone can submit pictures and news.
Take a look, there is still a lot of work to do, you're all welcome to come along to one of our concerts.
