NewsTheme for blogging or news sites

Xoops NewsTheme V1

26/10/07 - From XoopsExperts.com

Resized Image

Theme Description:

A modified version of the Xoops default theme that is suitable for blogging and news sites. The theme has three narrow columns of 170 px, and a wider column for the module content and top/bottom center blocks. The first narrow column beside the module content is actually the "center right" block ("center left" blocks have been disabled).

I recommend using this Xoops theme with either the WordPress or News module for your news or blogging web site. While both modules work fine with this theme "out of the box", you may want to tweak the module templates slightly if you need more space for the module content. For example, on the WordPress module, you can hack the module index page template to remove the sidebar, and use the WordPress sidebar block instead (as it provides the same features, and you can position it in any of the three side columns you like).

The left-side blocks, right-side blocks, center-right blocks and center-center blocks in this theme have the ability to "hide" block titles if you wish. Simply enter the word "none" after the title for that block, and it won't be shown. If you look closely at the theme demo, you can see where I have added a "hidden title" block to each column. Varying the visibility of your block titles like this allows you to create a site that doesn't look like it is powered by a CMS underneath.

Proposal: Towards A Sustainable Open Source Project

The proposal that follows below is tabled for open discussion by the XOOPS Community. The ultimate goal of the proposal is to develop an improved management for the XOOPS project that will encourage community participation and carry the project forward for the long term. It is proposed to achieve this through four steps :
1. Seeking general agreement from the community on the process outlined in this document.
2. Establishment of a team of community members to prepare a draft proposal on Management Structure of the XOOPS Project.
3. Publish the draft proposal for discussion and feedback from the community.
4. Implement the finalised management arrangements.

This document is the first step in this process. If there appears to be broad support for this proposal we will proceed to step 2 (note, a more detailed implementation schedule is included below).
We request community members to submit constructive comments and suggestions on the process for developing a management structure for the XOOPS Project outlined in this document. It must be emphasised that this proposal is simply the starting point for beginning discussions, not the end point.

ANINCE: Spanish Association of Fire Research Professionals

Fear what is fear.

This is it. Started working on it while in the summer XOOPS crisis, I bet on XOOPS EXM for the site and rejected Drupal, then tuned the site o death: some jQuery tricks, a lot of CSS and careful template overriding. Among the hidden gems in the site are TinyEditor (best wallet-opener ever seen in XOOPS) for all required forms, Backup module and some bugfixes on the theme and kernel (all them have been notified). Once it's finished, it will be very "foolproof".

Not finished yet, but functional.

http://www.anince.es

The site uses XOOPS 2.0.16 EXM version, News, CBB, ExtCal, TinyD0 and Dugris' SecurityImage and Contact module. It will also feature RMSoft MyFolder.

Thanks all them.

XOOPS Addons

XOOPSaddons.org opened today as another community-driven site to provide a central repository of XOOPS modules, themes, extensions, templates and language packs.

This long-awaited and much discussed resource is the work of many contributors and every effort has been made to give credit where credit is due. There are still plans for additional features for the site, including multilanguage support, supported and maintained module packs and a companion demo site.

Now open! http://www.xoopsaddons.org

Applicable to all themes

Recently in This post, we discovered a technique that will be beneficial to all themes.

The gist of it is that, until now, themes have displayed the <{$xoops_contents}> regardless of whether or not there was content to be displayed.

The standard default theme, and every theme since has looked like this.

<div id="content">
<{
$xoops_contents}>
</
div>

Which left a rather sizable gap on your index if you did not have a module set as your start page.

if you replace that code with the following, <{$xoops_contents}> will only be displayed if and only if there is content to be displayed.

<{if $xoops_contents}>
<
div id="content">
<{
$xoops_contents}>
</
div>
<{/if}>

Thanks to JAVesey for initiating this find.

Opening of CEDD.CA - Business and Sustainable Development Conferences

Opening of CEDD.CA - Business and Sustainable Development ConferencesRecently, INBOX International has launched CEDD.CA, the official web site of Unisfera's Business and Sustainable Development Conferences. What is Unisfera's Business and Sustainable Development Conferences In 2005, Unisféra held it first Business and Sustainable Development Conference in Montreal. The first edition of the conference was such a success that we decided to repeat it the following year. And once again, building on our experience and previous successes we are now in the preparations of the third Business and Sustainable Development Conference to be held in Montreal on 27-28 November 2007. This year’s event will focus on available tools and best practices for implementing sustainable development in an organization. Mr. Pierre Marc Johnson, former Premier of Quebec, counsel at Heenan Blaikie and chair of Unisféra’s board of directors, as well as Johanne Gélinas, Canada’s former Commissioner for Environment and Sustainable Development and now a partner at Deloitte will be co-chairing the conference. Online registration for visitors and speakers INBOX International developed a custom solution to allow visitors to enter their information, register to this conference and proceed with online payment. All transactions are handled by PayPal and the site generates complete reports about the registered visitors and transactions. Another custom section was also developed to allow speakers to enter their bio, personal information, pictures, resumes, etc... A collaboration with Zone C Communication For this project we have worked in collaboration with Zone C Communication for the visual and marketing aspects of the site. The very creative people of the Zone C team has developed the visual interface which was then beautifully integrated in a new theme by XOOPS Design.
