XOOPS Announces First THEME CONTEST 2008

Xoops Design Contest 2008
XOOPS is changing its look, thus, with the support of the Design Team, we decided to launch a Theme Contest to choose 3 new designs to be released with the next major XOOPS release and beyond. The contest is open to all : individual, group, or web agency (professional or not).

Now is your opportunity to take mouse and keyboard in hand and create the new XOOPS look.

1. Contest Timeline

  • Participants will have until 15 February 2008, 23:59 GMT to submit their theme entries. Entries shall be made via a post to the XOOPS.org forum using the title “first theme contest - theme name”. The post shall include a brief description, some screen shots (5 maximum), a link to download the theme, and should include a link to a demo site. Links (download, images, demo) must remain available until publication of contest results
  • No entries will be allowed after 23:59 GMT on 15 February, and the forum topic will be locked. The Contest Judge(s) will review the themes and produce a list of those which satisfy the technical requirements of the contest
  • Finalists will be announced in a XOOPS.org news article at 23:59 GMT on 22 February 2008
  • A poll will be setup to allow community members to vote on the top 3 themes to be included in future official XOOPS releases. A demonstration site will be available during the voting period. Community members will have exactly two weeks, until 23:59 GMT on 6 March 2008, to vote for their preference
  • 3 Contest winners will be announced in an article on the Xoops.org website along with an interview of each designer (or design team)

XoopsGallery Module 'init_basic.php' Remote File Include Vulnerability

XoopsGallery is prone to a remote file-include vulnerability because it fails to sufficiently sanitize user-supplied data.

XoopsGallery 1.3.3.9 has been confirmed vulnerable.

we advise you to upgrade to XoopsGallery 2.1+ or inactivate the module immediately until this issue is solved.

Llika, Xoops Web Design in Argentina

LLIKA is the name of my Web design studio. I have started developing a Xoops website a couple of years ago, in that case, for a news site project of my own. But later I started making more Xoops sites for me as well for friends and other people. So I decided to promote the Xoops website design as a service.
Using Multimenu, Smartsection for creating the sections of the site, XsGal to show the logos and banners I designed, WFLinks to show the portfolio, examples of Xoops Sites not made by me too, and links, by the way; and Liaise for contact form.
The theme was adapted by me, taking as starting point an artnomad creation as the credits says.

SEHP 2008: Spanish Association of History of Psychology

A new congress site, this time using Mastop Publish for the contents and News for the presentations on top of my own bugfixed XOOPS EXM edition. Tableless layout, all block & content divs are absolutely positioned around a relative positioned container div. It also uses DuGris' CAPTCHA, as usual on my sites.

MAstop Publish has been modified to use a different foldr name. Just look into the module's language files to find the folder name and change it before copying and installing in the folder you want.

Xoops Users Group in Houston Texas

I've noticed that there are a number of members on Xoops.org with a location in Texas. So, I'm willing to act as a "coordinator" to put together an in-person "users group" for Xoops in the Lone Star State.

If you are interested in helping to form the group, or would just like to participate once it's going, please leave me a private mail here, or use my e-mail address (below) to contact me directly.

I know that if you are like me, having a person you can call and/or visit with can provide that old "two heads are better than one" helpfulness. If there are enough of us interested in this neck of the woods, we can put together a discussion forum on one or more of our sites, or on google groups or somewhere, and have regular get-togethers and/or online chat and phone trees.

Just an idea. If you are interested, drop me a line!

The XOOPS Project in 2008

Xoops 2008This year XOOPS is entering its 7th year of existence since its creation. We definitely hope that it will be the "Lucky Seven" for XOOPS and our community!

2007 REVIEW

We had three releases for XOOPS 2.0 series, providing major improvements and security fixes, as well as maintenance releases for XOOPS 2.2 users. Management Structure Proposal has been preliminarily done by community. For the first time in history of XOOPS, we'll have an Annual Report made by community.

2008 PLAN

In 2008 we'll focus on "Community" and "Development".

Community :

  • Implement recently proposed new management structure
  • Make XOOPS Website more user friendly as a "one stop shopping"
  • Provide XOOPS Social Network

Development :

  • Better gathering of user-desired features
  • Merging of 2.0 and 2.2 branches
  • Next generation XOOPS 3.0; XOOPS as "Social Network in a box".

XOOPS, Powered by YOU! 2008 will be a very exciting year with a lot of fantastic developments. Let's work together to make it all happen and make 2008 the best year ever for XOOPS.

Classifieds 1.0 Final Released

This version is 1.0 like I said I was going to renumber this version. For those that don't know, I have never released a Classified Ads Module so I decided it should be 1.0 and not 3.0 I hope this prevents any confusion.

You don't need to use the upgrade script if upgrading from 1.0_RC3. Although it couldn't hurt. Remember you must be logged in as an administrator to use the upgrade script.

Features : User Side

  1. Xoops Notifications : Users can select to be notified if a listing is added in any category(whole module) or get notifications in just certain categories(category).
  2. A Sorting System : Users can sort the listings by date DESC, date ASC, price DESC, price ASC, title DESC, title ASC, hits DESC, hits ASC.
  3. A Rating System : Users can rate the user who is selling the product and also rate the product.
  4. The Pictures are different too : I have taken the guts from the Yogurt module and added them to this module. Now you can choose how many pictures users can upload and you can have different amounts for Premium and Non-Premium users.
  5. Has a page for users to see all ads by 'this user'
  6. Users can see all the Ads by another user, and the owner of the ads can administer their Ads from that page.
  7. Users can choose how to be contacted
  8. Users can select to be contacted by email, PM, telephone or any combination of those
  9. Users can print out the Ad.
  10. Users can send an Ad to a friend.
  11. Users can see replies to their ads on the members.php page

Features : Admin Side

  1. Has Xoops Group Permissions, per category - per group
  2. Clonable : There are only 6 steps to do manually and the module will be cloned, with no errors
  3. Many config items added change them in the modules preferences.

Installation

How to install : You will need to make the following folders writable(chmod 777) :

  • classifieds/photo
  • classifieds/photo/thumbs
  • classifieds/photo/midsize
  1. Unzip the file Classifieds_1.0.zip
  2. Upload the folder classifieds to your Xoops modules folder
  3. If you want to rename the module do it now, you can't change it after you install the module
  4. Go to Xoops Module Administration and install like normal
  5. Go to Ads Module administration and click on category maintenance, create your categories
  6. Go to Ads Module administration and click on Permissions and set up the following for each category
  7. View Ads Permissions - Select which groups can view Ads
  8. Ads Submit Permissions - Select which groups can submit Ads
  9. Ads Premium - Select which groups can set how long an ad will stay on the site until it is deleted. If they don't have permission it will default to whatever you set in the Ads Module preferences (default is 14 days)
  10. Go to Ads Module administration and click on Preferences and set to your liking

That should be it.

Upgrading

  1. Back up your database
  2. Overwrite the classifieds module with the new files
  3. Point your browser to yoursite/modules/classifieds/admin/upgrade.php, you must be admin to run this script
  4. Update module
  5. Delete the files below if they exist
  6. a. include/preferences.inc.php
  7. b. include/pictureform.inc.php
  8. c. admin/admin.php
  9. d. editdesc2.php

That should be it.
