Improve your site speed with php_speedy
I don´t know if this will work for everyone, I just want to share what I experienced with this code, I´m not by any means any expert or so, but if work for me perhaps it will work for others, other wise just let me know what do you think
To increase the speed of my site i just do as follow:
I use php_speedy, upload to my xoops folder install it and just include the suggested code to my index.php and it reduced the http request by 300%, correct me please if I´m wrong but from 83 request to just 22 and the average front page load time from 76.57 seconds to 28.49 seconds in a 56k connection is a good improvement,of course nothing is perfect and I had to sacrifice an slideshow, for one or other reason did not like php_speedy.
I check the speed gain with http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/index.html

XOOPS Listed as #2 Open Source CMS by ONDD

XOOPS Menu Extension for Firefox
Extensions for Firefox are becoming popular, so it was time to create one for XOOPS.
Since I never developed one, it was an interesting exercise. But once I found the right tutorial and the right tools, which were listed at the bottom of this articles, especially the Firefox Extension Wizard, it was relatively easy.
The longest time I spent was on defining the structure. I decided to group the links based on the user activities:
Learn
Use
Support
Develop
Contribute
If you have links that you use very frequently and believe that a XOOPS user would benefit from having them in this Menu Extension, please let me know, and I'll add it in the next release.

inTHEtube - a YouTube video search Module
What is the inTHEtube:
inTHE tube is a tiny addition to your xoops site, letting you add YouTube search and/or custum-keywords videos to your site.
Features:
1. you can as much keywords as you want, each keyword with the number of videos you want it to show
2. you can choose which keyword(s) will be the default and it's videos will be shown in the first module page.
3. you can choose it to show search box or not
4. you can choose if to show custum keywords or not
5. you can call the module with a url (details below).
6. I'm too tired to remember ....

xoops version 2.0.x , 2.2.x
(tested just with 2.2.4 , but should work with all versions)
Why Version 0.9 ?
The module code still a bit masssy and should be cleaned, most of the language vars are hardcoded, still no blocks (quite easy, but no time to ...)
Still - it's ready for production, so it better serve the one that need a little spice for their site
and I'll improove it later on - in future versions (hope time will let me do it soon)
Installation:
Upload to modules directory and install as usual...
Change the title of the block from gifts to whatever keyword you choose as your default keyword.
Set up other config options in the Xoops Preferences for the module...
Interaction with other modules:
You can call inTHEtube from anywhere (or any other xoops module) with a url call (like: http://www.mysite.com/modules/inthetube/index.php?keyword=<your_keyword>&num=<number_of_videos_to_show>
so it's easy to add it to xoops search or cbb search or any other module (tags , article and so on ...)
Issues/bugs:
No known bugs (yet?) ... but there are some Ajax issues with some charsets, and the module won't send the keywords to Youtube as it should ...
comments are welcome - especially since the module is ajax and css based, and when dealing with a lot of client-side stall, there are always browsers incompibilities ...
while in our site ( http://www.gifts45.com ) feel free to add your site (gifts or shopping related) and promote it ...
