Looking for Members - Documentation Team

Posted by wishcraft on 2010/2/8 7:10:00 (1425 reads) | Posted on Developer News
I am looking at forming a team for documenting the Modules Team and the Core Teams changes in the wiki and to go through the forum and find discussion topics to turn help sheets and guidances manuals.

I am looking for anyone with a Technical Writing background that wants to contribute to XOOPS under my team management to document the XOOPS Core, XOOPS Modules & XOOPS Hacks.

Part of what makes a good product is the team behind explaining how to use it.. XOOPS is no exception. With most books on XOOPS in other languages apart from English there is a need for documenting to be concise and easy to form.

Ideally I am looking for a team of 10 people.. Both male and female and the role comes with training and support references material.. I am looking to change my role at XOOPS from the core under-write to documentation manager.

You can contact me about this by the following way:

IF you don't have 8 - 15 hours a fortnight to dedicate to documenting XOOPS then please do not apply, there are no age restrictions and some young guns would be good.

I have noticed with the younger crowd here at XOOPS they feel that there age is a hindrance on getting involved, if you are between the ages of 16 to 65 these are ideal ages to sign up and get motivated -- so please write me an email attach your resume if you have one (This is voluntary/charity role) and send it to your senior XOOPS Developer.

You need to have at least a written language in english (other languages desirable for translating) and need to have medium to advance technical writing skills.

Well, I would love to sign up, but I don't have a lot of time to help... but I've been working on something simular (xoops-faq) and well, maybe I can donate what I've already done, and if you need some stuff done (like graphics or something) just call me ;)

Then i'll have to wait another month .
But i'll keep it with documenting my own modules .

And great idea, hope you'll find many people .

Thanks wishcraft.

Documentation is one of the key issues to the success in an open source project.
In the past mamba and other people have been trying to organize different format of documentation teams, I believe he can help you with this.

Simon, little question...
Are you going to provide the docs on http://docs.xoops.org like it used to be years ago? That was very handy - and we could add information from here to the docs site, if wanted...

I would like to help too, but I can't help as much as 8 hours a day - but I still want to be involved.

hi'

Thanks Simon, it is a huge work.

I could help to write a documentation (User manual) about Oledrion module, I thinks one of the most attractive XOOPS module.

I must find a competent and motivated developer (long term) to correct the existing bugs and (hopefully) able to improve module.

If someone is interested, just reply here and join Simon It is a concrete project. Please.

I tried to email you but the email bounced...

I would like to help out but I have limited time and would work in bursts. I already requested to join the documentation team but when I look at the wiki it looks very busy and hard to find what you are looking for so it is a bit overwhelming.

I am more of a programmer and a bit of beginner with XOOPS still but I figure working on things like this and upgrading modules and such is a great way to learn how XOOPS works before undertaking my own module creation.

... yep, same feeling
And too many questions to answer for moment :
• wich module to display documentation on Xoops.org
• wich program to use write documentation
• wich format to provide (html, pdf...)
• ...

... so working on a big documentation would allows :
• establish some procedures about documentation
• make Oledrion more popular
• have fun

Perfect job for you ! Oledrion is a very complete module, and code full commented (in french).

I would like to wait Simon response before go further and let other developers to propose their help.

thanks again

Well some of you are interested. I have cleared my XOOPS email account for email again.. Those interested in documenting with me -- please contact me on any o f the details provide, remember my chronolabs email account gets around 200 emails a day, so i don't have time to check it -- I would prefer you use simon@xoops.org

I need to work out if people live in msn or skype for this, we need to group ourselves..

I think word 2007 alternatively you can use Open office -- will be what we will be documenting in as i know how to program it and can rip the wiki from it.. Just diagrams are easy with 2007.

For displaying the documentation.. i can in a months time, write and application for it, or we can use media-wiki... The Wiki on XOOPS needs to be updated regularly -- once we have a team formed where I have received a couple of emails from members..

i will confirm the name list and start meeting.. this is a slow moving train documenting and the reward is your own inner knowledge.

To make it easier we are going to use MSN Groups to streamline the documentation teams workflow. If you use MSN and would like to join the group URL is as follows:

* http://xoops-doc-team.groups.live.com/

Please join the group if you are interested or have some time to add to the Documentation of XOOPS and the XOOPS Modules.

You will not be able to join forever -- this option in the group will eventually be turned off!
