New Module Logo design for XOOPS 2.3

Posted by Mamba on 2008/8/25 6:10:00 (14798 reads) | Posted on Developer News
In preparation for XOOPS 2.3 release, we're changing the Module Logo design.

As mentioned in our WOX Newsletter #10, our XOOPS Friends in Spain Eme3Design developed a new look for the standard Admin Theme (see here...).

We liked the idea a lot, so we've decided to follow it and change the logos for the XOOPS 2.3 release as well, but with a blue color. We believe that the new design makes them look more modern, professional, and hip

We would like to see all the XOOPS modules that have been successfully tested for XOOPS 2.3, to change their logos to the new look, so our users know that a particular module will work in 2.3.

If you have Photoshop, you can also use this Photoshop file to make your logos for XOOPS 2.3.

FYI - We've used images from Crystal Project

Please maintain the XOOPS 2.3 "look & feel" of the logos.

Some of the modules logos could look like this:

Of course, it's up to the module designers to finalize their module's logos, but we hope that the logos will share similar look and feel with XOOPS logos.

As always, we're looking for talented graphic designers to help us and those module developers, who might not be so good in graphics design.

And congratulations to Eme3Design for their great design ideas!

That would be awesome! Just make sure to give credit to the original authors.

Good idea!
But why not using the same colors as the new default theme? or colors on the new logo?

I think XOOPS needs to be unified for such things.
We already have an amazing logo, let's use it!

And could it be possible to share the source of the modules logo?

It looks sharp! What is the new font that's in use though?

I can do a blank button, but I can't tell offhand exactly what font the new standards is ... except not Bit3.

Niluge_kiwi, good points. Is it looking better now?

For comparison, the previous designs:

Once we agree on the final version, I'll post the Photoshop file here, unless somebody wants to play with it and improve it.

Mamba> They are really good now!

In fact we would need a new theme for the admin, with the new colors.
But the new logos with the old admin theme are fine, so it's ok.

Good work!

niluge_kiwi: I'm glad you liked them.

I'm working now on the changing the header for the 2.3 Admin Default Theme, so it is consistent with the 2.3 Default Theme look & Feel. Nothing spectacular, just a different background, so people see that they are in 2.3.

BTW - do we have anybody who would like to take a look into porting the 2.2.6 Admin Theme to 2.3? This would be a nice addition, if it's possible.

If there are no more suggestions for the Module Logos, I'll post by tomorrow the Photoshop file here.

Good news of the new admin!
It would also need some modifications on the .css to change all the colors, but I think there is no need to change everything (like the grep small pictures which make the design).

I like the blue ... looks sweet. Of course, I'm not looking forward to redoing the buttons for my modules, but that's not a major crisis.

We've tried one here, but there was not that much interest. However, we're still open for videos, banners, etc.

And please feel free to submit logos for the most popular modules, and the authors might take them and include in their releases. Just please use the new XOOPS 2.3 Logo Background, so we can be consistent for 2.3 modules.

We'll definitely have one for XOOPS 3.0 again...

Well, the idea was to work on the logo icon, but leave the background as it is:

Otherwise we won't have the same "look & feel" as below

Let's put our creativity on the logo "look & feel" for XOOPS 3.0

Hi all..
I just update AMS logo to have same feel and look with XOOPS 2.3.x. And i enhance a bit to make it looks glossy since i think its look better. What do you think guys/girls?

Oh.. and I want to let you know, I am using GIMP instead of Adobe Photoshop .. powerful and FREE image editor. It can open and save PSD file too.

I personally prefer the Original one.
Too glossy is too much.
And the logo inside the logo is often already glossy.

For your logo AMS, the right edge is aliased, I don't know if we can do better, but now it's not perfect. (it's just an advice to improve it)
Published: 2008/9/6 13:15 • Updated: 2008/9/6 13:15
Let's stick to the original, as any changes now would require extra work for all the other logos, plus extra time for agreeing to new ideas.

Also, for consistency reasons, it would be better to have the text in CAPITAL letters. So in your case AMS would be just great.

But we will be open for XOOPS 3.0 logos...

Can we have a "New Icon/Button Design" campaign so that XOOPS can have a uniformed modern style of graphic look?

Hi,

First off all i want to state that i like the new design.
Second, i think you should not change the font to Trebuchet MS simply because some text can be to long with this fonttype. I made some packs in 2005 for almost every module availeble at that time. The packs in 7 different colors were downloaded 42.000 times over the last few years.

Here is a sample of work i have done. All files are .png Your 5 cents please.

Hi Burning,

Thanks, i made these just for fun and for 53 modules some time ago. The font used was 04B_03B_.TTF (original .ttf font)

Ritchie, very nice work!!!! I love it!

We will be opening a discussion about module logos for XOOPS 3.0, so we definitely should consider your design for that.

For XOOPS 2.3.x I would prefer to keep the current design, as we don't want to confuse users with different logos. Branding is important, after all

It looks like you have a lot of talent, so I hope, you'll stick around and help us with the various graphic designs!!!

Hi Mamba,

I will be glad to assist when in the future XOOPS 3.0 will arrive. All packs i have made so far include a full .psd etc. I will even include the icons for extra packs in a seperate download.

I am using XOOPS since 2001 and did some work on several themes etc. After some healthprobs i am back on track to help out in future projects.
