MyXoopsExtensions - Now For Dreamweaver MX 2004!

Posted by pod on 2005/6/23 12:55:54 (16504 reads) | Posted on Themes
MyXoops is happy to announce an exciting development for your XOOPS - our extensive Dreamweaver extension for XOOPS Theme and template production is finally available for use with Dreamweaver MX 2004.

This exciting utility now offers more features and functionality than ever, neatly including every smarty variable for XOOPS theme production in an easily accessible drop-down menu. We have also included codes for multiple themes/stylesheets and an easily editable horizontal navigation with dynamically generated sublinks - now just click, edit & go for your own fast and highly dynamic XOOPS themes.

Click to see original Image in a new window

Thanks to XOOPS-Tips and Peak XOOPS Support for providing these codes. MyXoopsExtensions also offer built in support for Center-Top and Center-Bottom blocks, usable with the header hack from Happy Linux - as well as easily implemented collapsing right and left blocks.

XOOPS Theme production has never been so fast and easy! No longer cut and paste from old themes to create new ones, build your XOOPS themes from scratch in a fraction of the time with MyXoopsExtensions and Dreamweaver MX 2004.

We have spent a lot of time, effort and energy creating this great tool - we even had to buy a new computer just to make this release possible. In the hopes of recouping some of the cost of creating this utility, we are requesting that everyone who finds this component as useful as we do help support MyXoops design and development by contributing a small donation of $5 or more, or by joining MyXoops Club. If you cannot contribute monetarily you can help us by rating our utilities and contributing your own resources to the site. Keep MyXoopsExtensions free and up to date, support MyXoops!

Thank you for your support, and happy theming!

Very cool!

I downloaded it and looked at it in DMX2004

It was cool to have all the tags when creating a new XOOPS template...

I would love to see a new XOOPS CSS Theme as well with all the common CSS tags used by most modules.

Also, it would be nice to have an insert XOOPS image under Insert menu, with Smarty Tags and all.

and what about the blocks? theres a few ways to do it so not sure which way to go, but have you thought about creating Block Libraries or something like that?

Is there any other hidden gems you can point out?

Great work and it would be really nice to see a few more added features, at least CSS template...

You have a donation from me.

Cheers,

_Dan

This sounds great! Well done!

For those people that don't have Dreamweaver (like myself) would it be possible to say a bit more about what the tool does?

Is it possible for designers not familiar with XOOPS to use this tool, or is it aimed at XOOPS coders who also use Dreamweaver?

Any extra info would be great - and it would also encourage more people to donate :)

Almost 650 reads, 350 downloads, 20 replies and one $5 donation... you can do better than that, XOOPS Community!
If we had decided to charge $5 per download, we could have paid off the computer nearly 2x over by now! Don't think your $5 wont make a difference - it could make the difference in whether this utility evolves as Dreamweaver and XOOPS both evolve, or whether this incredibly useful utility will remain free for all to download - or not.
To the one person who already donated, our sincerest thanks. To the rest of you, dig deep and donate $5!

I am very glad you all seem to find this to be the great tool I knew it to be.
To address a few specifics:

This tool is useless without Dreamweaver. We have 2 versions available, each is Dreamweaver-version specific. This latest release is only for use with Dreamweaver MX 2004, as it takes advantage of the newest Dreamweaver functionality to provide a much more extensive interface than the version we have available for use with Dreamweaver MX.

What does it do?
MyXoopsExtensions allow you to click variables into place with a touch of a button, simplifying the process of creating and manipulating XOOPS themes and templates. Easily wrap content in various IF Statements, insert a welcome message or a horizontal menu just by placing your cursor and clicking the button. All this and more in a colorful XOOPS Objects toolbar that rests atop the Dreamweaver HTML editor, altogether an easily navigable interface.

I believe that any intelligent newbie would be able to find a use for this utility, but the people who will benefit most from this release are those who create lots of XOOPS themes, and thereby are the more experienced XOOPS theme designers. This is a time saver especially for the XOOPS adept but a great tool for anyone trying to create or modify their own XOOPS theme - and I believe it will speed the XOOPS learning curve as all the variables are laid out for anyone to experiment with at their leisure.

If that doesnt clarify things, check out the MyXoopsExtensions FAQ here or view a screenshot here.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by block libraries?

I suppose I should have added a default XOOPS stylesheet template along with the default XOOPS theme template - will try to add it in the next release. Along with, perhaps... a few commonly used XOOPS theme layouts to manipulate, CSS and Table variations? Is that what you mean? Good ideas, definitely.

If anyone else has any ideas that you think should be incorporated into this extension, please post them here or on the MyXoops Forums.
While you are in the downloads section, check out our cool Flash integrated XOOPS themes! A dynamic Flash menu module is next on our agenda, look forward to many more great XOOPS things for your XOOPS, from MyXoops!

Thank you all for the kind words, and in advance for forthcoming outpouring of support! lol

Also, what an honor to be featured as the headline @ XOOPS.org! I really do appreciate the simple recognition of the hard work invested in MyXoopsExtensions, like I say, it is an honor. XOOPS is the best open source community platform available, and despite all the recent politics and controversy, I believe it will remain so. Glad to do my part and contribute something of value to the XOOPS community!
Mith, thank you :)
And again, thank you all for your support!

This has been requested for a loong time and I'm SO happy to see that it has now been developed.

With a good enough toolbox, we can only get better ourselves.

Keep up the good work.

I've always been weary of creating my own theme from scratch, and always find one similar to what I want and change it to my needs.

This is the perfect tool for me and many many others to get stuck in and create our own themes.

Thank you very much Pod, I think we will be seeing many more themes released in the future.

Pod - I hope this gives your club the publicity it deserves as a well-intentioned project.

Me too!
On that note, check out the latest theme available to MyXoops Club members here. This theme features a Flash integrated, dynamically generated horizontal navigation with submenu links, as do all our themes. That means that you drop the theme into your /themes/ directory and you're done - our themes are "smart", they do all the work for you.
We are considering releasing at least one free Flash integrated theme so that people can see how unique MyXoops Themes really are before joining the club... I think that people must not understand the nature of our themes or we would be swamped with club requests by now. My research showed that second to the Dreamweaver extension, a dynamic Flash menu was the most sought after feature by the XOOPS community - and yet, the response to MyXoops having finally achieved it does not yet seem to affirm my hypothesis. Or maybe I should be giving away themes and charging for the extension. *shrugs*

Any chances to see extended MyXoopsExtensions backported to DW MX? I rare use DW and so lazy install MX 2004 only to see at MyXoopsExtensions (anyway I wrote my themes by hand)
Published: 2005/6/24 22:04 • Updated: 2005/6/24 22:04
Dreamweaver MX lacks support for Object Bar drop-down menus, and to insert every smarty variable, all the variations on IF statements, etc without the drop-downs would make for a very cluttered interface. For this reason MyXoopsExtensions 1.0.1 will not evolve, they will remain as-is for Dreamweaver MX.

All the bugs you pointed out in version 1.0.1 have been remedied in version 1.0.4, so I suggest you take the time to upgrade to MX 2004 & try the new extensions. Besides that, Dreamweaver MX 2004 is sooo much better than the previous versions - lots of new functionality. Worth the upgrade IMO.

Yes, we are discussing how we can best use the (rather limited) funds available to us - and this could be one of the areas where funding could go.

I had no problems donating yesterday - so I guess it is a temporary (or just new) problem
Published: 2005/6/25 17:08 • Updated: 2005/6/25 17:08
Wow that sucks... I have been seeing a lot of people visit the donations page only to leave the site without leaving a contribution - I can only wonder how many of these PayPal sent away with that error message. I have checked my PayPal settings and everything seems to be in order, but I changed my primary email address just in case. If you continue to experience problems with MyXoops & PayPal, please let me know so that I may remedy the situation.

All donations can be sent via PayPal to services@myxoops.com - working on getting a PO Box for alternative methods.

RE: Official funding... it is an honor just to be nominated, lol...

Thank you very much for your support :)

I hope so!

Thanks again for your contribution, I really appreciate it.

On a sidenote, I have added a "Created With MyXoopsExtensions" category to the MyXoops Links section of the site, I hope to see many great examples of what can be done with XOOPS, Dreamweaver & MyXoopsExtensions. Helping us add content to the site is just about as valuable as a monetary contribution at this point, I would love to see a MyXoops community evolve out of all this.

Thanks again for your support, interest & enthusiasm!

Although I haven't had time to test it thoroughly yet, it's obviously taken a lot of work for you to get it off the ground. Seems to be just what I wanted!

BTW I can confirm the Donations are working fine :)

Thank you, Bassman, & I hope MyXoopsExtensions do turn out to be just what you needed :)

It did take a lot of work, weeks buried in "Extending Dreamweaver" just to figure out how to make them & years of researching XOOPS to determine all the appropriate codes...

Which reminds me, I forgot to credit Dave_L - without his kind help here on the XOOPS.org forums I never would have figured out how to achieve the IF content exists statement, which I then applied to achieve the IF left blocks exist statement, two elements that are integral to dynamic theme creation & seemed to be lacking in XOOPS documentation. Thanks Dave_L!

& Thanks again for your support!

Hi.

This MyXoopsExtensions sounds just great, however it seems the site is no longer available to the public since i get an error (page not found) on aal myxoops links.

Can anybody help me out please, thanks in advance.

The server was down for a few hours, but it is back up now so you shouldn't have any further issues when attempting to download MyXoopsExtensions.

On a sidenote, with nearly 1400 downloads & all of $45 in supporting contributions, MyXoops is leaning hard towards charging $5 per download for this component. Get it free while you can ;)

Every little bit helps, thanks so much for taking the time to join MyXoops & contribute.

As you [all] use MyXoopsExtensions and realize ways in which they could offer more functionality, please drop your suggestions off in the MyXoops forums. Or if they are so good you cannot see how they could be improved, bring your praise instead! :D

Thanks!
