Modules: News 1.2 is out of Beta/RC status

Bugs are resolved, mainly there is one inconvenience remaining with news items not being shown in Classic view, but a clearing of templates_c folder content should take care of that.

We hope you like it and will use it as much as the previous version and that you will support the further development with more of your great ideas and comments.

The groupperm.php file included in the release (not in the .zip, but the release on dev.xoops.org) is the file from Xoops 2.0.7 which is to replace modules/system/admin/groupperm.php in Xoops 2.0.6 in order to make the group permissions work.

Hi Guys,

Very well done on the module, good job! Just wondering if you guys would ever consider implementing a feature as I discussed in this thread so that all columns in a multi column site are of equal length? Not a biggy by any means, but just something I think would polish it up a bit

I am using the SPAW editor (I know! I know!... but it is for my staff who know nothing of web-design) and I have noticed that storyform.inc.php already has some SPAW hacks integrated, as well as having a directory in /modules/news/admin/spaw.

How can I make my current news module use the SPAW addition? Is there a place to turn it on somewhere?

What have you been smoking?

There's no SPAW editor neither half nor fully included in News 1.2

We are waiting for Samuels' WYSIWYG editor, which will be cross-browser compatible, when it is in the core, it will be added to News.

Cleaning up and polishing e.g. the column view will probably be in the further development of the module - as well as an improved topics management.

Hm, this doesn't work for me at all.

I uploaded the files and updated the module. With classic mode it doesn't show anything, and I did clear the templates_c directory.

I went from 1.1 to 1.2, but I didn't get any upgrade link in the news module menu. Any ideas?

There are still afew things to work I think, but here is a not-so-comprehensive list of whats been added or changed.

The file submit gives an error. The uploads has been chmod'd to 777.

i have exactly this problem
and a question:

3) Go to e.g. Topics Manager in the News module preferences
4) Choose "Upgrade" from the navigation in the top - if the link is not there, you already run v1.2

where is the upgrade link?????????

BTW, pagetitle works great - only minor thing is the module always takes the last news item' title as the module index pagetitle.

The upgrade link should be there if there is no database table for the files attached to newsstories; the stories_files table.

I made a quick little function to see if the table exists and if not, it should show the link when you go to e.g. Administration menu -> News -> Topics manager.

If that fails, the SQL statement to create the table is also in the sql/upgrade.sql file.

now i find the problem
the module dont update
when i go to admin--> modules and click on "update" link i get this fatal error:

The upgrade went flawless, it came up as said in the docs, but now i am not able to see any news. When ever i change prefernces and say go it says failed open file, i have changed the permision to the topics directroy to 766, still its not working.. is this some bug or i am missing some thing????

I have a blank page problem for news until I change the settings from "classic" to "topics" in the module config options. No errors using php/mysql/smarty debug

Hiya

I'm getting a 500 internal server error when I upgraded, can anyone help me out?

I had News 1.1 and XOOPS 2.0.7 and I uploaded all the files, then ran the upgrade script which said it was successful. When I clicked on the News module link I got that 500 error.

Any help most appreciated,

Internal server errors are not caused by XOOPS's code, but by... the server. So I don't think this is a XOOPS related problem, just a coincidence.

I've fixed the problem. I had to chmod 755 *.php.
