hi, in the XOOPS 2.3 version there is a 'None' item by default in every dropdown select box in the profile module. However, if you choose 'None' in any dropdown select box when editing the profile you can't save the results cos it says that you've got to choose something from the list. Why do I need to choose anything else if I chose 'None'? What is the purpose of it?

It is to force the user making a choice, in the same way as you can not leave some text fields empty.

In other lists the first choice is displayed and when the form is submitted the choice is accepted as valid, however the user did not select it and the choice may be wrong.
The behaviour of the dropdown and its choices are setup by the module developer. The API offers these possibilities.

Would make more sense if it said 'select' or 'choose'...
