#1 Posted on: 2011/2/1 3:42 Problems with the integrated Banner system
Hi there,

I have a clean install of XOOPS 2.5.0 and I wanted to setup a banner. When a user clicks the banner a new tab is open, the url is something like www.example.com/banners.php?op=click&bid=4 and the message that is displayed is this:

_BANNERS_NO_REFERER

This message appears in Firefox 3.6.13 and Chrome 9.0.597. In Internet Explorer and Opera everything works fine.

Do you guys have any ideas about this?

Trabis made some updates. Can you check with the latest trunk?

Banners use server http referer to check if the banner request came from the current host.

Quoting this site

"Most web browsers pass the HTTP_REFERER variable by default, but in many this behaviour can be changed to not show it or to pass something else instead. There is also 3rd party anti-spyware etc software that can be installed on a user's computer which also prevents the referrer information from being passed to the web server."

Maybe something is "wrong" with your pc?

I guess there are other ways to address banner hotlinking that do not rely on client side. Use of sessions come to mind.

I have a similar issue on my system. The banner ad displays an error.

No referer detected
