well it wasn't that nobody respected what people wanted regarding the photo upload, it's just the fact that doing it requires a substantial amount of hacking of the core which would limit you on future upgrades..

tho now it's actually been done (disregarding the other profile fields as all the info is in the faq or forum to add those) the photo upload took me all night to do and is a pretty large core hack by my standards, i'm not a coder so i'm not sure if i went the right way about it, but i'm pleased with the results anyway :)

The members issue is not simple. Besides the various requests for categories, fields types, etc, we also have to consider the privacy of some of them (according to the relative EU directives too…)
I personally believe that the ability to create – modify the members form, should be intergraded in the core system, giving the administrator the choice to activate or not and make them mandatory or not.

This feature is absolutely necessary in a respectable site/portal that has members.

yes i understand privacy issues.. altho i can assure you that the devs are working on a new system for the new version of xoops, which i think will allow admins to fully control and create profile pages.. i believe they are working on/implementing a hook type system also which would allow greater flexibility..

Hey m0nty I was thinking of a minor change you could implement which would make the profile much more precise:

Instead of asking the age of the user, make the script ask the date of birth, then calculate the age according to the present date.

Because if you leave it like that when people have their bdays they won't think about changing the age in their profile, and after one year all the age entries will be false.

yeah i was thinkin bout that.. shouldn't be hard.. i might get a quick fix out for some fields.. let me know exactly what fields u want. however i don't think i'm gonna submit as files, more of just step by step instructions.

i'm thinking of possibly making an admin menu that controls the fields so u can add/change them yourself if i can get my head around coding it..

i posted the photo upload hack in the news section earlier this morning, once you've installed that.. the fields should be the easy part..

well a DIY sounds cool but then i dont know how to seperate the fields and customize them..

anyway the demo you posted on this topic is EXACTLY what i wanted, apart from:

-this date of birth option which would be really useful

-the dhtml buttons for the "biography" section

otherwise the rest of the fields are perfect!
