Just to let you know, making it so BOTH pages display .png files does not correct the problem, it just makes the images look untidy in IE on the failing site.

Another update:

It may have been someone from this site, I don't know, but someone has just posted on the site in question that there is NOT a problem with IE 6 under Windows XP, but this person does not have any Service Packs installed.

I am not sure if that is good news or not.

I guess that means the problem is not with the site?

Or is that too simplistic a point of view?

The thing that tells me there is still a problem with the site in some way is that from my XP machine I can see every other XOOPS site (that I use) working fine, but this one site does not work?

My head is starting to hurt...

Ok, My problem must be effecting a VERY small number of people (My self included) as I have just called a friend that has 2k, and the site looks fine for him with all menus working a treat, so I asked him to look at the site with his win2k machine, and again, everything works PERFECT.
AND he DOES have windows XP with SP2.

So now I am really confused, but I am happy to think the problems must effect a minority, so I am just going to leave it, there's no point tinkering if I might break something else

That was my view in the end. I just figured that some people are going to have a specific config of their machine so a small percentage of users may be affected. Not enough to be worried about though I don't think.
