Greetings. Let me set the stage here. I recently purchased hosting for a guild website and decided to use xoops. The hosting company I am using is Siteground (www.siteground.com)They offerd a feature called "fantastico De Lux" which I used to auromatically install Xoops. I did so but when i try to run admin.php i get the following error.

"Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /admin.php on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

I did some research and found that it may be a problem with .htaccess but I have no idea how that works. I am fairly new to this hence why I decided to use XOOPS in the first place. Other than the setup process it appears that it would be a good and easy way for me to make a good website for my clan. Please if anyone could take the time to walk me through this problem it would be greatly appreciated.

To start Fantastico installs 2.2.3a which is not the current version.

I won't even get into the reasons why, but the current version is 2.0.17

Get 2.0.17

upload all the files/folders in the "htdocs" folder to your root path.

Log into cPanel and create a new database and user.

Add your new user to your new database with all privileges, point your browser at your webroot (yoursite.com) and follow the onscreen directions.

Kinda obvious but make sure you delete your old files first. Then upload the new XOOPS package Will has suggested above. Dont use the 2.0.17.1-RC release it still has bugs as of tonight.

Like he said the installer will walk you thru.

Do you know what chmod and ftp is?
