I'm using newbb 2 rc2.

After I set certain forums to "Allow Subject Prefix for the Topics," there's no display of the "prefix" pull-down menu when I tried to start a new topic.

The menu only shows when I login as admin to post new topic. When I login as a normal user, the menu doesn't show despite my normal user id being set to "allow posting new topic."

Any help or suggestions would be welcome and appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Can comments be displayed in user profile?

is it possible that the user profile page can be modified to show not only the details of each user's contribution to diverse modules (like newbb), but also various comments he or she posted while using those modules?

since my site has this need to track some users' all posts (including comments) for educational purposes, i hope those users (most of whom are students) can click on their own id to see how many posts and comments they have done and how many others they have to do before meeting basic requirements.

for the moment, it seems only the admin can see all comments listed in the system admin panel, yet users are denied access to the info. if the user profile can show the posted comments of each user, great efforts would be saved for both admin and users on my site to have the job done more easily.

your kind help would be much appreciated and has my heartful thanks in advance.

i've come across the same problem. at first, i thought i need the script (the so-called "the koivi function") installed by myself. yet png simply didn't show. later i found that newbb2 has already provided that function. so i searched the web to find out the reason: i have to remove png from my hotlink protection file. namely, i got to remove png from my .htaccess file (or htaccess.txt). though i don't know the reason behind (e.g., i need not remove .gif or .jpg from .htaccess to have those image formats displayed), yet it works for me.

you can follow this link to test the hotlink protection of your site.

again, my thanks for your kind help.

=======================================================

sorry for my naivety. i just checked the module setting. what a fool i am! the setting of timelimit is already there, plain and simple like under the sun.

thank you for your kind lead.

newbb2 rc2 edit old post question

in newbb 1, i can login to edit my old posts (no longer how old in days they are). yet in newbb 2 rc2, i found that only in the first login session of mine can i edit my post just submitted. not only can i not edit my older posts, but i lose access to editing my newest post if i logout and relogin: that is, my second login session deprives me of the access to editing my post in the first session, despite however short the interval between the two sessions.

are there any ways for me to give registered users access to editing their older posts? or is this simply part of new features of the newbb 2 rc2 so that only site admin is entitled to editing older posts?

thank you for your kind help in advance.

I tested it, and it is OK, all are converted to spacers. You can only 'see' : bla bli

thank svaha and phppp for your quick tests on my site. of all, svaha's test is the most illuminating, because of which i'm starting to realize the trick.

the trick is:

1. instead of " ", one has to use "&nbsp" (without the closing semi-colon).

2. regardless whether the forum is set to "allowing html tags" or not, one should not click on the preview button, but submit the post directly; otherwise the magic would be simply gone. after the preview, the code "&nbsp" will be replaced with blank spaces which, in turn, will compressed to only one space after the submission. if one again put the code &nbsp back, skip the preview, directly submit the post, voila, blank spaces appear.

=====================================================

since this forum on XOOPS official site is set to "not allowing html tags" (as i supposed so, since the option "enable html tags" does not appear on the post page), i would do a test right here using "&nbsp"

test         test

=====================================================

if the test above show blank spaces in between, then the magic works.

i don't know if this really is a bug. yet as mentioned above, savaha's test post gave me a clue to what happened behind--his post uses "&nbsp" instead of " ".

magic &nbsp

It is not NewBB2's matter but the configure of "allow html"

For here, html tag is disabled hence the '& nbsp ;' is displayed literally.

I don't know how the xoops.org forum is set but the '& nbsp ;' is converted space in preview.

On my site, it works fine.

also you can check the NewBB2 Demo site:
http://beta.xoops2.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?viewmode=flat&topic_id=296&forum=2

i did go to the demo site to make a test. the code does work there. i don't know if i've done anything wrong in my setting. yet on my site, when i enable html tags and post " ", the preview will show blank space. if otherwise, it shows code itself.

however, when i click on the submit button, the result is all the same--the code, instead of blank space, always shows.

though my site is encoded in big5, the sample can been here:

http://cyberiwww.xoops.net.br/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=611&forum=5

since the button is in english, a test on the reply or new post there should be not too difficult. on the post page, the "allow HTML tags" (with only HTML in english) can be enabled to do the test.

if anyone is kind to give a test and find out the reason for the glitch on my site, please let me know. you will have my heartful thanks.

recently i've upgraded newbb module on my site to v.2 rc2. everything works well and much to my enjoyment and amazement. i've to show my thankfulness to all those who have contributed so much to the new module, bringing general users like me a gental breeze.

yet i've come across a small problem when i tried to post with the html code " " in content.

in the old version of newbb (v.1), there is no problem showing extra blank space between words on screen with the code.

yet in v.2 rc2, strangely, the preview will show extra blank space while, after the post being submitted, the space is replaced by the code itself, that is, " " will show on screen as it is.

i checked the old posts with " " inside and find that they all show codes instead of blank space. the forums in question, by the way, are all set to allowing html tags.

i would like to thank in advance anyone who can help me solve this puzzle. my sincere gratitudes.

=============================================

i've made a test in the following to see if " " can work here.

test                  test

as is witnessed, the preview of this post will show " " as extra space while the submitted version displays the code alone.

Hi!! Welcome to xoops.org!!

For change the date format, just open the file language\YOUR_LANGUAGE\global.php and find this part:

define("_DATESTRING","Y/n/j G:i:s");
define("_MEDIUMDATESTRING","Y/n/j G:i");
define("_SHORTDATESTRING","Y/n/j");

Here you can change the Long Format Date, the medium format and the short format.

I hope this help you...

Sorry my bad english.

i came to your post by accident. this does solve an issue i've puzzled over for a long long time (due to my somehow laziness to search for the answer). thanx a lot.
