Yes, you're right, thay did "activate" it, and it's something I should've tried that first. I had seen the previous comment about it before.

It seems odd to have to do a system module update to get a block to work, but I have noticed on several occasions that changes to templates, etc. require module updates in 2.2.4 when the same kind of operation in 2.0.x did not. On 2.2.4 if a change I make doesn't appear I first try clearing templates_c and the browser cache, then I try updating the particular module. One of these usually works.

It would be useful if the set-up window for this block included a note "Update system module after installation".

Changing the templates to set attribuates of mainlinks and to control the behavior of switch vertical sublinks (persist/no persist etc.) is an option, but if these could be optionable in prefs it would be better for the average user.

As Shakespeare said "What's in a name"? I think no matter what the sublinks are called, the docs will need to briefly explain what each is. I do like Dynamic Sublinks better for the current "Switch" types and I like Permanent vs Active for the type of sublinks that are always present vs active only when the mainlink is active.

Thanks for listening to my suggestions.

I have two installations running under XOOPS 2.2.4, one a test site. I have installed the Who's online block in both and neither works. The block name shows, but no information is present below that. Anyone have any suggestions to fix this?

In MM 1.7.4 choosing dynamic sublink allowed the submenus to appear (that is be activated) when the mainlink was chosen. This gave a similar effect to Switch Vertical, as long as each mainlink was to a different module (different module directory). I can see from your explanation that that is why, when you have mainlinks that all are from pages in the same module (in my case in the Content module, all of the sublinks open when any one of the mainlinks is selected.

The Switch Vertical option in the MM block provides the same function, and overcomes the limitation above. Knowing that the Mainlink cannot also point to a URL indicates that one will have to design menus accordingly. That is, use the mainlink entry as an indication of a set of menu options, which will drop down as submenus when the mainlink is clicked. However, as it does not link to content itself, it would be better if the mainlink item could have different attributes, e.g. different color (so as not to look like a link) and maybe to be able to be bolded or italicized. Another option would be to enable switch vertical for Categories as well or instead, and to allow admin to change text attributes (color, size, bold, italic, etc.).

One other thing: when you click on a submenu in Switch Vertical, the submenus disappear and you have to click on Mainlink again to see them. I think it would be better if they persisted until a different mainlink is selected.

For Dynamic Submenus how about Active Submenus (or Activated Submenus)? For Switch Vertical "Dropdown" might be more descriptive.

I have a question and a possible bug to report:

What is the interaction between selecting dynamic submenu in adding a new menu item and selecting the [Menu] item in Block Format (in the Blocks setup window)? If I select Switch Vertical in the latter, it doesn't seem to matter whether I choose dynamic submenu or permanent submenu. Under what circumstances does selecting dynamic submenu provide a dynamic menu?

There seems to be a problem when I select Switch Vertical. The menus are displayed correctly and expand to show submenus when I click on the main menu item, but the link entered for the main menu item does not open. I do have the main menu item selected as a mainlink in MM.

I tried entering a full URLhttp://etc. instead of a relative path (modules/etc.) for the mainlink. That kills the Switch Vertical funtion altogether. In other words, the down arrow icon doesn't appear and no submenus appear when I click on the main menu item, although the latter does bring up the right page.

Any suggestions?

I have used a simple cgi script to put a counter on a page or in a block. You can get the one I used athttp://perlwebsite.com/hitcounter.htm

Put the cgi script in your cgi-bin

Then on the page where you want to call it, put:

<script language="JavaScript" src="http://aka.org/cgi-bin/counter.cgi"></script> visitors etc., etc.

changing the text to suit your site. You can also call it from a custom block.

A little more elaborate is php-stats available athttp://www.phpstats.net. There is a FAQ for installing it athttps://xoops.org/modules/smartfaq/faq.php?faqid=529

My issue was a little different, but as I understand it you will need to put the Frameworks folder and its contents at the root level of your 2.0.13 installation, then the newbb folder into your modules folder. Then do the update.

As I actually haven't done this, you might want to wait until someone who has confirms it. Even then, backup your site first, of course.

The point is that I would not be updating an existing installation of newbb2. I have an installation of newbb2 under XOOPS 2.0.13.2. I have rebuilt the site under 2.2.4 because I wanted to change some of the modules used. So, I want move all the data from the old newbb2 forums to the new CBB3 forums, which are in an entirely new XOOPS installation (under a subfolder on the site).

I have been rebuilding my XOOPS 2.0.13.2 site under XOOPS 2.2.4 and am almost ready to make the switch. I want to transfer all forum cats, topics, posts etc from newbb2, on the old site, to CBB3 on the new site. I tried copying the data from the old db to the new, but the posts don't retain the poster info. They all show up as guest.

Can anyone suggest the best way to do this?

BTW, just to be sure, have you tried clearing your templates_c filder and clearing the cache of your browser. I don't have to do that myself to show the changed email, but it might be worth a try.
