Hey everyone,

I must say that this is a great tool. I actually found out about it yesterday and have been playing with it ever since.

I got most of it figured out except for some small details.

One of which is in formating I guess. I started a test site. you can view below..i just installed one of the already made themes...

Test Site

and was wondering if someone could help me out with the news part of it. I created a topic pic but cant get it to align like the one on this site...

News Format

Basically, I want my news section to be in that format..with the topic pic on the left and the poster on the bottom...the best i could get it so far is how you see it on the test site..

Any help appreciated..sorry for the long post..

D.

Hi xoopers,

I am very new to XOOPS and portals and this is my first attempt at creating a portal website. If anyone is interested I will have the new theme available as soon as it is fine tuned. Please take a minute and let me know what you think. Suggestions would be nice...

The XOOPS site uses the News module as it's default module. This is set from the "Module for your start page" drop down box in your system admin general preferences.

By the sounds of it you have something like the headlines block or spotlight module set for your home page. Can you give us a URL so we can see?

never mind. It apears to have been the ftp program included with Dreamweaver site manager.

I tend to steer well clear of changing system themes, and I would never edit one. You havefound out for yourself what can happen. I would try uploading the original unmodified 7Dana system theme again and overwrite your changes.

When I go to the main page of my site (e.g.http://localhost), I'm getting the "Welcome to Apache!" page. Removing the Index.htm pages then shows me a directory listing of my docroot. I haven't noticed anyone mentioning that they've needed to modify their DirectoryIndex setting in httpd.conf to look for Index.php. Is this just implied or is there a more appropriate way to point to XOOPS?

On the mony :) Usually a php based sofware uses index.php as its start page. Set apache to look for index.php and you should be good to go.

I see where modules are listed in the Administration section, though honestly I haven't yet found good descriptions for what they do and/or suggestions for external modules that provide supersets of functionality. Can anyone provide either an example set of module configurations for a "standard" site or a comprehensive listing of modules and in what circumstances they're useful? I guess my specific example would be News entries... there seem to be multiple modules to choose from and I'm having problems determining what would be appropriate.

Well, they can be uninstalled fairly cleanly and easily with a few clicks, so it's prolly worthwhile to tinker with each module you come across. I do :)

Do a search for uploading avatar and you'll find heaps of threads

What is the location of avatars? Can I ftp a bunch into that Dir and then jave them usable without having to manually import each one?
