XOOPS as an MVC is not an XOO + OOP Classes/Include Structure would only be MVCPS.coop

Look I don't want to shunt the gun at the moment looking at the xoops engine 3.0, but if you ask me and I have a qualified master of science with RMIT with 2008 in IT, Physics + Psychology; ever started pushing for an MVC version of XOOPS which believe me isn't what you find still classically c++, c ansi, perl, java and other languages still follow it the XOO + OOP Structure of being a classes/including folder panagram...

XOOPS 2.6 is good but it still missing and should be written in now the structure is set the requirements in the XOOPS Documentation area for addition requirements for the library to support as well as the upgrade I wrote to convert the database entirely to INNODB to support database 'constraints' in mysql which is in the 2.5/2.6 forums recently by me topically, which increase speed exponentially of the database due to probability predictions in the structure it stores it in from them... Mamba has a copy in his gmail of mysql.sql with all the database root constraints set that need to be added to the upgrade when set in his gmail.com under my name if he searches - Simon Roberts!

It also needs it additional classes for reverse compatibility with XOOPS 2.5 and so on it essential it is an easily walk through and over without the composer call these files should be included only updatable with composer in the distribution master.zip.. Remember Richard, I have always remained off the XOOPS Council; even though I carry ID That would even allow me to list with the American XOOPS LLC as kinda like a moderator mediator cause of the co-relationship between the XOOPS Foundation + Chronolabs Cooperative generally using it for intranet and so on!

I will remain an anonymous veto on what mamba keeps saying it has to be reverse compatible still and all the requirements like XOOPS Documentation met to complete XOOPS 2.6

Honestly if you branded a top end code library not backend library with XOOPS with an MVC route and so on not manually written by the system module as an extra plugin to the root .htaccess, then you would be consider as an XOO + OOP as an MVC as some sort of mental health escapee or day release about on the web!

the latest release 3.20 . two bugs
1- Anonymous can not add msg even if you enable it .
Simple fix : open xfcreate.php change line 154
if ('' == $_POST['uman']) {

to
if ('' !== $_POST['uman']) {

2- if you disable email asking . it will keep asking to insert your email anyway

sorry do not have time to investigate this one ..

Having visited XOOPS after quite some time, I d/l and installed 4.5.9 on Bitnami WEMP stack (Nginx) for Windows. Most of the install went good, but when I selected install the three default modules (private messaging, protector, and the other one) the install broke and would not complete.

Upon restoring script and db backups, re-attempted install but without selecting default modules and the install completed successfully. The three modules were then installed successfully one by one from the administrator back end.

Next I d/l Publisher 1.06 final release. After moving to the modules directory and initiating install process by clicking the green X icon, not only did the install break, but also broke the entire admin back end in an unrecoverable manner so that it was unusable without a third installation.

Just passing along my findings. Since the three default modules installed without issue, I would rule out that the root cause could be the module installer issue, db or script permissions issue, or server issue. Most likely something with the module itself.

Re: How to install a xoop back up on xampp local host

Install your stack (i.e. XAMPP or WAMP) and make sure it is working first.

Here is a section of the installation manual dealing with moving a site:
https://github.com/XoopsDocs/xoops-2.5.9-install-upgrade/tree/master/en/book/moving

You can follow those instruction to adapt your backup files to the local environment.

Re: Smarty 3.1.33

There are some potential issues. These are the main ones:

1) Since we expose Smarty directly, the BC layer for v2 would be required. It is good, but not 100% perfect. Alone, this would probably not be a blocker, but it could break previously working code.

2) Due to changes in parsing, things as simple as extra spaces or missing quotes may cause unintended results or errors in some circumstances. These were harmless in v2.

3) Many XOOPS templates have historically relied on an unassigned variable to evaluate as false. While this may still work, it will produce error messages, sometimes in log file filling quantities..

The code and templates included in XOOPS and the more actively maintained modules have some of these possible errors corrected already. There are, however more modules, and even more templates and themes that may never have been checked. Those are the ones that may break sites which have worked for years on upgrading.

With the 2.5 series, we want to encourage upgrades especially for security reasons. Adding features we suspect may cause issues is something we want to avoid if at all possible. The next generation XOOPS will include the latest Smarty, and as a major upgrade, the BC issues will be expected, acceptable and documented.

Hi to everybody
why not update Xoops 2.5.10 Smarty version to 3.xx trunk?
I did not find compatibility problems in my tests.

Lucio
