Introduction
There had been a lot rumors around in the Xoopsshere the last months and things haven't changed for years now. Complaining is easy but not helpful, that's why i want to write also my pov and proposal about the currently lacking structure and also the public offer to help Xoops where i can also to share my experience i had collected in other Projects. I have offert this in june to D.J. but were thinking agin by reading all this flames and fights, if it is a right choice - now i know it will be the right choice.
Working Groups:
I'm not a friend of having a Project Leader or Manager i prefer several and also Working Groups:
Development Working Group
1. Projectmanager
Coordinator of the Development Working Group, Design Working Group and the Q & T Working Group Well the Developing Group is responsible for the Core, the Design Working Group for the Design usability and accessibility. Q & T is of course responsible for the quality of a release and for testing.
Infrastructure Working Group
2. Projectmanager
Coordinator about the Site and Infrastructure Working Group, this Working Group is responsible for the Sites and the maintaining, also for the Server, this includes also the new redesign and restructuring of the given Sites. They also add tools which are needed to support the different Working Groups and of course the Community. Interims the Group also manage and rework the dev.xoops.org Site.
Documentation Working Group
3. Projectmanager
Coordinator about the Documentation Working Group, this is a big part so the task currently should be only related to this subject.
Community Working Group
4. Projectmanager
Coordinator of the Community Working Group the Group leads the support in the forum and community related affairs like coordination of the International Groups therefor also the Translation parts.
Foundation Working Group
5. Projectmanager
Foundation Working Group, this Group is responsible for the Legal questions, Public Relation and Marketing nothing more and not only for Foundation Members.
That is also the cliffhanger about the role of the Foundation.
The Foundation is and should only be the Legal entity of XOOPS to protect the copyright, collected money and pay for things which are needed by the Project. The Foundation has no right to steer the Project or influence the Project.
Remarks
So this structure needs no Council and the Projectmanager will be elected by the Working Groups and the Community, periode should be 1 year.
Decisions within the Working Group will be decided in the Woking Group, Project decisions by the 5 Manager by a majoriy of 3/5, decisions which are important for the future of Xoops by voting of the community. As you notice there will be no Coreteam anylonger in my proposal, i believe with this structure you don't need one.
At least one point which i miss since years is communication - so to be short a informed Community is a productive Community as useless discussions are than obsolete.
I want to offer my help first in the Site and Infrastructure Working Group, later if i'm completly back in the Code of Xoops mayby also by supporting the Developing Group.
Just my 2 Cents on the matter here.
